What is the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS)?

The Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS) was introduced by the government in January 2014. The aim of this benefit schedule is to improve children’s dental health by providing funds to cover essential dental services for eligible children aged between two and seventeen years old. The fund covers the cost of essential preventative and restorative treatments up to a value of $1056 over a two consecutive year period. Any funds remaining at the end of each two-year period will not be carried over.

What type of treatments are covered under the CDBS?

The treatment covered by the CDBS help prevent any dental diseases, or wherever possible, will restore teeth that have been damaged due to infection or trauma. Our Westbrook Family Dental will work with you and your child to devise a suitable preventative dental treatment plan within the scope of the services covered.

Preventative treatments covered by CDBS include:

  • Regular dental examinations
  • Cleanings
  • X-rays
  • Fissure sealants
  • Fillings
  • Root canal treatments
  • Tooth extraction

How do I know if my child is eligible for the CDBS through Medicare?

This service is means tested and could be available if your family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Government Payment and have a current Medicare card. The easiest way to find out if your child qualifies for the CDBS is to contact our team and our team will check your eligibility and balance available. You can also access this information on your Medicare account, either online at my.gov.au or you can call the Medicare General Enquiries line on 132 011.

How can I check how much is left to claim for my child with the CDBS?

There are three ways to check your child’s balance. You can:

  1. Complete the Child Dental Benefit Schedule form below and one of our team members will come back to you to let you know your eligibility or balance remaining.
  2. Call our team and we can check the remaining balance or eligibility
  3. You can also access this information on your Medicare account, either online at my.gov.au or you can call the Medicare General Enquiries line on 132 011.
